Deborah and Randall's Family
|
Deborah and Randall were a happy couple with a welcoming home waiting for
children in 2002. But things were never the same after March of that year, when
they were placed with their three girls, Tonaya, Breanna, and Mary.
The family is active in their church community. Their friends and family
lovingly embraced all of them as they instantly became a family of five.

Polly's Family
|
Jose was placed with Polly on Christmas Day in 1999, making him her "Christmas
baby." She believes the two of them were made for each other. "He was mine all
along, he just had a different journey to take before he came to me," she says.
Jose is very well adjusted, and Polly thinks a lot of the kids in the system
are better adjusted than people realize. "Maybe even most of them," she adds.

Michael and Theresa's Family
|
Sophie was placed with the couple in January of 2001 when she was sixteen
months old. This was their first child, and "just having another person in the
house was scary," says Theresa. Her caseworker was helpful in getting them
through the initial adjustment. When Theresa is working as a flight attendant,
Michael takes care of Sophie.

Mary and Henry's
Family
|
Mary and her husband, Henry, have adopted twenty-two children and given birth
to five. With eleven still at home, they are among AASK's biggest advocates
and an enthusiastic "peer family" families who spread the word about
adoption and its advantages. "You see children when you first get them, and
they are withdrawn. They have difficulties, until they realize, 'this is my
family'," Mary says. "Then you see the light come on, and they just get better
and better." She loves that part of being a parent.

Greg's
Family
|

Greg is a single father with a full-time job as a television program
coordinator and one busy son named Tiree at home. Prior to
coming home to Greg, Tiree was featured on Brian's Kids. After seeing the
youngster on TV, Greg called his AASK social worker and said, "I don't know
what you have to do or what you have to say, but I saw my son." The rest, as
they say, is history.
