Director's Welcome:

Welcome and thank you for visiting the AASK web site!

If you've opened our site, you more than likely have an interest in adoption and children's issues. AASK was built upon these same interests. In 1973, AASK became the first private adoption agency in 60 years to take out a license in the State of California. The founders did so with the firm belief that no child should be labeled "unadoptable" and that homes existed for children beyond infancy: They immediately proceeded to prove themselves correct. Because of the efforts of AASK, the practice of adoption took a dramatic shift. AASK proved that loving, permanent families could be found for a diverse range of children in the foster care system waiting for homes; children from infants to teens.

AASK continues to offer free adoption services to parents seeking waiting children. AASK also continues to actively participate in positive changes and practices in adoption and child welfare. Agency services are being broadened and diversified to respond to needs in these arenas. Our Cross-County Adoption Service, for example, helps ease caseloads at county agencies by providing home study services to selected families. Our services help move these families and the children placed with them more quickly to legal finalization. In addition, AASK staff is trained to provide mediation services through California Consortium for Children for juvenile court cases, in effort to avoid adversarial and often lengthy court battles and to develop post-finalization contact agreements when appropriate. We are beginning to incorporate foster care services into our mix along with adoptive family camp.

To read more about our services and successes, I encourage you to spend a few moments touring our site. I also encourage your participation along with AASK in helping improve the future of waiting children. AASK offers many opportunities to provide assistance - by becoming a foster or adoptive parent (contact us today to reserve a space in our next workshop), performing volunteer work on AASK's behalf, advocating for legislative improvements and by generously supporting AASK's services through donations. Together, we can provide a safe and secure future for our children.
