Families adopting or fostering through AASK have access to an array of services:
Camp ALWAYS:
Our award winning post-adoptive services camp retreat. Adoptive AASK families
are invited to attend our family camp in Stanislaus National Forest for 4 great
days of recreation, education, respite, and community building. Other than a
small registration fee, camp is free of charge to participating families.
AASK Family Forum News
There is so much we can gain as foster and adoptive families when we communicate and support one another. The AASK Family Forum seeks to be a supportive link among all of AASK.
Family Activities
AASK provides low and no-cost recreational, educational and arts events for
families. The events offer the families the opportunity to stay in
contact with each other and also provide a unique setting for children with
special needs to interact in a fun and safe environment. Events include
picnics, holiday parties, plays, concerts and sporting events. Currently we have a subscription to the Community Access Ticket Service (CATS) which provides tickets to events throughout the year at no charge to our families. AASK families, be sure that has your email address so that we can keep you posted on events that come up each week from CATS.
Buddy Family Program
Current families serve as mentors to new families. A Buddy Family can help you
learn about the adoption process including the skills you will need and the
rewards and joy your new child will bring. Some buddy families form long-term
friendships, share parenting tips or baby-sit for each other.
Lending Library
Books, tapes, articles, community resource information are available at the
AASK office. AASK staff have prepared a
recommended reading list.
AASK Newsletter
The newsletter keeps families informed about adoption issues and services while
it also keeps families in touch with each other and AASK.
AAP Advocacy
AASK social workers help families document their child's needs and advocate for
appropriate rates.
